COMPUTER WIRING:

The majority of offices rely on networked computers to carry out daily activities. Armstrong Electrical Services Ltd can install all types of structured cabling in your premises.

CATEGORY 5 (cat 5):

Cat 5 is short for category 5 computer network cable. It usually comprises of 4 twisted pairs of wires ( copper) terminated by RJ45 connectors. The frequencies supported are up to 100 MHZ. The usual use of category 5 cables is for networks with speeds of 10 to 100Mbps. That is, Ethernet and Fast Ethernet.

CATEGORY 5e (Cat 5e)

Cat 5e is an enhancement of a category 5 cable and supports data speeds of up to 100 Mbps ( Gigabit Networks) . Cat 5e cables will support Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet. Cat 5e cables are backwards compatible, meaning that they can be used in any network instead of a cat 5 cable. Cat 5e also reduces the crosstalk  ( electrical interference), which enables better quality of signal transmission. Category 5e also has a higher frequency of up to 350 Mhz.

CATEGORY 6 (Cat 6)

Cat 6 are similar to cat 5 but are produced to higher standards.

CATEGORY 7 ( Cat 7)

CATEGORY 7 is like its predecessors and aimed at higher standards. The main differences are the isolation structure and connector type.

WHY USE AN ELECTRICIAN TO LAY YOUR NETWORK CABLE?

There are several techincal limitations which can only be known when asssesed by an qualified installer - i.e.  the lengths of the cable( maximum 100 meters or 328 feet.)
